The Importance

Achieving a higher sleep quality can be difficult, but it can also prove worth your time. Getting a higher quality sleep can leave you feeling more refreshed and energized. Even if you have been getting eight hours a night, the quality of that sleep could be down resulting in you still feeling tired during the day. Any of your day to day activities can easily be affected by you not getting the proper sleep that your body needs to fully revitalize itself, even if you don't realize it. Your job performance can be down and your train of thought can be off or slower than normal.

Finding The Right Bed

Having the right bed to sleep in plays a large role in what type of sleep you get. However, all people are different and we may require different things. Some people prefer harder surfaces while others prefer softer. There are many different beds and mattresses to choose from and it's important to try and see which you like best. There are standard beds and mattresses, air beds, memory foam mattresses and adjustable beds.

A standard bed can go a long way with the proper mattress. You wan't something that will not poke at your pressure points, so something with a little foam in it would be better. A full memory foam mattress might suit you if you like softer surfaces, as it will completely surround and take the form of your body to relieve pressure points.

Air beds have a different feel to them, but can be adjusted for different firmness levels. Some come as pairs so both you and your partner can have their own firmness level for their side.

Adjustable beds have the largest amount of customization. They allow practically any position and there are many different mattresses available for them as well, even visco-memory foam. Some adjustable beds also have massage features for a complete comfort.

Your Environment

Your environment can be just as important as the surface you're sleeping on. This includes things such as the temperature, sounds and moisture in the air.

Most heating systems will dry out a room, so you might need someway to keep the humidity up some. Humidifiers are a great way to control the humidity in the room, and opening a window can help some as well.

The use of fans can be used to help keep things cool, or electric blankets to keep yourself warm. Fans can also be used to drown out other noises that might be keeping you awake.
